Nature, Wilderness & Indigenous Wisdom
For most of my life, I have been surrounded and been extremely fortunate to live in environments where there is tremendous landscape and beauty of many kinds: the mystical poetic land of foggy Scotland, the desert and mountains of California, the busy San Francisco, the majesty of Inverness, West Marin, the rolling hills and pasture lands of Sonoma County, and the diverse biology and landforms of the California coast. Every environment has its own unique teachings, offerings, and wildlife. I have spent much time quietly listening to the drumbeat of the earth, the prayers for the healing of the planet, and the call for a greater level of listening to the ancestors and to the unlearned tragedies of our times, so that a greater change can come through not only me but through my work with others as well, and therefore through their lives. I continue to learn tremendously through this medium, and welcome all who have a particular affinity for transformation by tuning into these realms of information to not worry that their particular and more ancient or natural-wild-wisdom ways of knowing will not be known how to be held, which might be more common with a traditional therapist. On the contrary, they will be welcomed, embraced, and invited to speak from that deep place, with invitation, encouragement, and recognition for what they truly are.
Over the past 20 years I have worked with many teachers who walk these ancient ways in modern times and have found that the teachings never fail to bring a natural awakening addition that brings dimension and grounded, deep wisdom to whatever work or process wants to unfold. Many clients appreciate the common sense, non heady or non intellectual approach offered by these traditions and the sacred rituals and practices contained within them. We have and continue to learn so much from all those who have shared the knowledge gained from spending time in reverence and respect for the land, the animals, the nature and all that life, stories, natural earth wisdom and history that is contained within that world.
